“Better Red Than Dead” Ale Recipe

This is another malt forward beer.  This is a dark Irish Red Ale.  It has a bit of a fruity character balanced with roast bitterness. Pours with a nice creamy head that hangs on for a couple of minutes.  The recipe came from the March/April 2009 issue of Zymurgy.

Grain Bill

  • 7.0 lbs Maris Otter Malt
  • 3.0 lbs Munich Malt
  • 8 oz CaraRed 20 °L
  • 6.0 oz Crystal 120 °L
  • 4.0 oz Roasted Barley

Hops

  • 1.5 oz Fuggles @ 45 minutes
  • 1.0 oz Kent Goldings @ 15 minutes

Yeast

  • Wyeast 1084
